Over the Independence Day weekend we traveled to Island Park for a fantastic family reunion with the McCain Family. We rented a large five bedroom home about 20 minutes from the West Entrance into Yellowstone and we spent two fantastic days exploring the Park.
We spent the first day at Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin. That is a weird place with geysers and colorful pools scattered all around. It didn't take us long to remember the odor associated with all the geothermal activities. We hung around the main area with the family until Old Faithful put on a show and then we headed out onto the boardwalks. Aaron's brother and family joined us as we ended up going on a 3.5 mile hike with only one water bottle (oops). Most of the geysers were just steaming, but we did see a few spout. It was a neat day.
Day 2 in Yellowstone was in the canyon area of the park and I will save that for another post.

Candace, So glad you enjoyed Yellowstone! I used to live in Jackson, WY and loved going up there. What a fun vacation for you guys.
Awesome vacation! We know three or four families going there this summer...makes us want to go there soon! I remember walking along that boardwalk when I was about 6 or so--it was a very memorable vacation. Glad you all had fun.
Just wanted to say thanks for letting us stay at your home! It was so nice to be able to come back from a busy day of activities and just relax in a place that wasn't a hotel room. Plus, all of the fresh raspberries and peas made for some great snacking! Thanks again. Oh, and I've tried one of the salsa recipes so far and we devoured it. I picked up ingredients at the store today to try another. Thanks for all the fantastic recipes! You guys are the best. Hope you enjoyed your trip!
We went to Yellowstone in 2005! We had lots of fun also! I am glad that your family had fun. I hope that you guys are having a good vacation.
